Plenty of Muskoka cottages have no road to the door. The last stretch is by water: a boat kept at the family dock, a private launch, or a water taxi that runs on its own schedule. The car journey ends at a public dock, a marina or a boat launch, and the next ten minutes decide whether the weekend begins well. MuskokaLimousineServices.com books chauffeured cars to those handoffs, from Pearson, Billy Bishop, Union Station or a home address, with the fixed fare shown before you pay.
How does a car-to-boat handoff work for a Muskoka cottage?
The chauffeur drives you and your luggage to a named marina, public dock or boat launch, where your own boat or a water taxi meets you. You book the car with the exact dock address and arrival time, share the boat contact in a note with the booking, and the car waits its free time.
We drive; we do not run boats. The marine leg is arranged by you with your own boat, the cottage owner, a marina or a licensed water taxi operator, which we describe here in general terms only. What we control is the car: where it stops, when it gets there and how much it can carry.
Ways to reach a water-access cottage
| Mode | Door-to-door | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeured car to a public dock or marina, then your boat | Drive time plus boat time | Fixed fare via the booker for the car leg | Per vehicle class; the boat sets its own limits | Families with groceries, coolers and pets |
| Chauffeured car to a marina, then a licensed water taxi | Drive time plus a scheduled boat ride | Fixed fare for the car; the water taxi sets its own | Operator's rules | Guests without their own boat |
| Drive yourself, park at the launch | Drive time plus a walk | Fuel; vessel parking permit may apply | Whatever you can carry down the dock | Owners with a boat and a regular routine |
| Local taxi to the nearest dock | Short hops only | Metered | A couple of bags | Last-minute trips from a nearby village |
The weakest link is almost always parking. A car left at a public dock for a week is a problem, and a car that drops you and leaves is not.
Where the car actually stops
Public access points in Muskoka are run by municipalities, and each has its own rules. These examples come from the municipal and tourism lists we checked. They are not a recommendation, and you should always use the address your boat captain or cottage owner gives you.
| Place | Address or area | What the list says |
|---|---|---|
| Gravenhurst, Muskoka Wharf | Steamboat Bay Road area | The town names Muskoka Wharf Marina; the Discover Muskoka list shows the Steamship Bay launch with parking |
| Bala | 1061 Weismiller Street | Dock, boat launch and parking (Muskoka Lakes) |
| Port Carling | 40 Bailey Street | Dock, boat launch and parking (Muskoka Lakes) |
| Milford Bay | 1148 Milford Bay Road | Dock, boat launch and parking (Muskoka Lakes) |
| Torrance | 1031 Queen's Walk Road | Dock, ramp and parking (Muskoka Lakes) |
| Ullswater | 4023 Highway 141 | Dock, boat launch and parking on Lake Rosseau (Muskoka Lakes) |
| Honey Harbour | 1 Delawana Road | Port of Honey Harbour, the Parks Canada shuttle boarding point |
The Township of Muskoka Lakes publishes a full list of municipal docks and boat launches, and warns that you may require a permit to park your vessel at those properties. Discover Muskoka keeps a boat-launch directory for Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, the Muskoka Lakes and Georgian Bay, with a parking note for each site.
What each municipality says about public docks
Rules differ, so read them before you rely on a particular address.
- Gravenhurst: The town says it does not charge launching fees, that parking may be off site or a short distance from a launch, and that public docks are for temporary mooring. Lake access points are rural spots that may be maintained only as a walking path. Its boating page links to the full directory.
- Muskoka Lakes: Its list marks each site as a dock, launch, lake access point or parking area. Some sites showed temporary closures in 2026 for improvements, so confirm your dock is open on your date.
- Georgian Bay: Parks Canada recommends reserving a Parks Canada-licensed shuttle for day visits to Beausoleil Island from the Port of Honey Harbour, and a licensed private water taxi for overnight camping. See Honey Harbour and Port Severn.
A car that stops at a public dock should have a plan for loading and leaving. A drop-off is not a parking service, so plan the return pickup rather than leaving the car.
Which towns have public docks
The municipal lists make the pattern plain. On the Muskoka Lakes side, docks and launches cluster around Port Carling, Bala, Milford Bay, Torrance and Ullswater. In Gravenhurst the focus is the Wharf and the Steamship Bay launch. On Georgian Bay it is Honey Harbour. Whichever you pick, the road trip starts at the same place for most visitors: the flagship Toronto Pearson YYZ page explains terminals and meeting points, and the Muskoka hub lists every town.
Water taxis, described honestly
A water taxi is a licensed boat operator who ferries passengers and gear between a mainland dock and a water-access property. Operators set their own schedules, weather rules and baggage limits. We do not run, endorse or schedule them. What we do is plan the car leg around the departure you have agreed.
Three questions to settle with the water taxi before the car is booked:
- Which dock will the boat use, and is there room to stop a vehicle there?
- How much luggage will the boat take, and does it accept pets and strollers?
- What happens if the car arrives early or late?
Put the answers in a note with the booking. If the boat runs late, the free waiting time is 15 minutes on non-airport pickups, 30 minutes after domestic airport landings and 60 minutes after international ones, so airport arrivals have the most slack.
Luggage, groceries and pets
The vehicle class decides what comes with you.
- Executive Sedan: up to 3 passengers and 2 large bags.
- Mercedes E / S-Class (Mercedes-Benz E-Class and up): up to 2 passengers and 2 bags.
- Business SUV and Executive First Class SUV: up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, the usual choice for a family with coolers.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, for two families or an extended group.
- Jet Sprinter Executive: up to 7 passengers and 5 large bags.
Stretch limousines and party buses carry little luggage, so they are not suitable for a dock handoff. All vehicles are "or similar", with the model confirmed at booking. Dogs and cats ride in a carrier, so tell the desk about a pet when you book, and trained service animals ride free. Child seats are booker options; if a child will ride a boat afterwards, a life jacket is the boat operator's rule, not ours.
Groceries first, dock second
A pre-booked car can make extra stops on the way. A typical sequence is the airport, a supermarket in Barrie or Gravenhurst, the LCBO if you need it, and then the marina. Add each stop in the booker, and the fixed fare covers the stops you entered. The LCBO is Ontario's government liquor retailer, which is useful to know if you are visiting from outside Ontario. There is no drinking in our vehicles (a bottle can still be added in the booker as a sealed gift).
Remember that cold items have a time limit. Put the stop for perishables as late in the sequence as the route allows.
Timing a car and a boat together
Boats run to the weather, and cars run to the traffic. The two schedules only meet if each has slack. A sound plan has four parts:
- Agree the boat time with the operator and write it down.
- Choose the car pickup by working backwards: add the drive, add a margin for Highway 400 and Highway 11 if it is a summer Friday, and add ten minutes at the dock.
- Share the boat contact with the chauffeur.
- Keep a second plan: if the boat cancels for weather, tell the reservations desk, which can advise on the booking, and have a contact who can rebook the boat.
Our Highway 400 and 11 cottage traffic guide covers the road side, and Ontario 511 shows live conditions.
Opening and closing weekends
The busiest dock days are the spring opening, the long weekends and the autumn closing. Bedding, shutters, tools, groceries and the last garbage run all travel by car and boat. A booking with two cars can be coordinated: give each booking the same dock and the same arrival window, and describe the group in a note with the booking.
Our cottage transfers page covers the road-access version of the same trip, and Sprinter and group transportation is the place to start if the group is large. For the lake districts, see Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph, and for the nearest town to the Wharf see Gravenhurst.
Booking a marina or boat-launch transfer
- Open the booker and enter the pickup.
- Enter the dock or marina as the drop-off, using the address from your boat captain or the municipal list.
- Add extra stops, child seats or a return trip, and tell the desk about a pet.
- Check the fixed, all-in total, with HST included.
- Add the boat contact and the boat's departure time to a note with the booking.
Licensed, commercially insured vehicles and chauffeurs, a 24/7 reservations desk and corporate accounts with monthly invoicing apply here as elsewhere. The full list of services is on our services hub.
Frequently asked questions
Can you take me to a marina or boat launch?
Yes. Enter the marina or public dock as the drop-off in the booker. Use the exact address from your boat captain, cottage owner or the municipal list, and add the boat's departure time in a note with the booking.
Do you run water taxis or boats?
No. We provide chauffeured cars only. The boat leg is arranged by you with your own boat, the cottage owner, a marina or a licensed water taxi operator, and we plan the car's arrival around it.
Can I leave my luggage at the dock?
The chauffeur drives you and your bags to the dock. Do not leave bags unattended at a public dock, and agree the loading plan with the boat operator ahead of time.
Will the car wait for the boat?
The free waiting time is 15 minutes on non-airport pickups, 30 minutes after domestic airport landings and 60 minutes after international landings. For longer waits, hire the car by the hour in the booker.
Can I bring a dog or groceries?
Yes. Dogs and cats ride in a carrier, so tell the desk about a pet when you book, and trained service animals ride free. Add grocery and LCBO stops in the booker, and choose a Business SUV or an Executive Sprinter if the load is large.
Is there parking at public docks?
It depends on the site. Gravenhurst says parking may be off site or a short distance from a launch, and Muskoka Lakes says a vessel-parking permit may be required at municipal properties. A drop-off by car avoids both.
What if the boat is cancelled for weather?
Tell the reservations desk, which is open 24 hours, as early as you can. The car can wait within its free time, and the desk can advise on the booking if you have not yet left.
Do you serve Georgian Bay marinas?
Yes. Honey Harbour is about 166 km from Toronto, and Parks Canada lists the Port of Honey Harbour at 1 Delawana Road as the boarding point for the day shuttle to Beausoleil Island.
What does a marina transfer cost?
Fares are quoted by the booker, not printed here. You see the all-in total for your dock address before paying.
