Muskoka and Blue Mountain are two of Ontario's best-known resort areas, and they sit on opposite sides of Simcoe County with no direct road between them. Going from one to the other means turning south, crossing Highway 11, Highway 12 and a stretch of county road, and joining Highway 26 west of Barrie. MuskokaLimousineServices.com books the private car for that journey, and this page lays out the route, the distances from each Muskoka town, the public alternatives and when each one makes sense.
How far is Blue Mountain from Muskoka, and how do you get there?
From Gravenhurst it is about 125 km, usually 1 h 50 to 2 h 10 off-peak. The route runs Highway 11 south to Orillia, Highway 12 and County Road 22 across Simcoe County, then Highway 26 through Stayner and Collingwood. A pre-booked private car does the whole trip on one fixed fare.
From Huntsville the same route is about 175 km, so it is a long day trip: allow two and a half to three hours each way. For a ski weekend most groups sensibly book one transfer there and one back, with a stay at the base. Tourism Barrie's page gives Highway 26 as the road from Owen Sound through Collingwood and Stayner into Barrie, which is the same corridor from the other end.
The route, step by step
From Gravenhurst, a route planner sends you south on Highway 11 for roughly 37 km to Orillia's outskirts, then onto Highway 12 for a few kilometres, then County Road 22 across the middle of Simcoe County for about 33 km, then Highway 26 for roughly 27 km through Stayner and Collingwood, and finally two county roads to the Village. The Collingwood centre is about 8 km before Blue Mountain.
The route has a second variant. From Pearson or Barrie, the usual choice is Highway 400 to Highway 26 west, and a car starting in Orillia or Barrie can join that corridor directly. In winter, or after a collision, the chauffeur may switch between the two. The car takes whichever road is clearest on the day.
Ontario's 511 service is the tool for the day itself. It shows roadwork, cameras and closures, and its winter-driving layers show road conditions and where snowplows are. Georgian Bay's snow squalls are a feature of the Collingwood area, and they can reduce visibility quickly.
Distances from Muskoka and the airports to Blue Mountain

| Horseshoe Valley Resort | about 66 km | 1 h 10 |
| Lake Simcoe Regional Airport | about 82 km | 1 h 20 |
| Orillia | about 88 km | 1 h 20 to 1 h 40 |
| Gravenhurst | about 124 km | 1 h 50 to 2 h 10 |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 132 km | 1 h 45 to 2 h 15 |
| Muskoka Airport (YQA) | about 133 km | 2 h to 2 h 20 |
| Bala | about 138 km | 2 h to 2 h 25 |
| Bracebridge | about 140 km | 2 h 05 to 2 h 30 |
| Port Carling | about 155 km | 2 h 15 to 2 h 45 |
| Parry Sound | about 171 km | 2 h 25 to 3 h |
| Huntsville | about 175 km | 2 h 30 to 3 h |
Distances are rounded road figures. Ski traffic into Collingwood can be heavy on winter Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and a long weekend adds to both. Our winter and ski transfers page explains how we plan those days.
What Blue Mountain offers, from the resort's own pages
The resort's site, bluemountain.ca, gives its address as 190 Gord Canning Drive, The Blue Mountains, Ontario L9Y 1C2, and covers both seasons. In winter it lists the Ikon Pass and its own 5x7 Pass, and a Holiday Magic programme running from November 20 to January 3. For summer and early autumn, it advertises an Explore the Escarpment package from May 1 to October 31, 2026, along with hiking, biking and swimming content and autumn events.
The page does not state a ski-season opening date, so check the resort for the date this year. The main thing to know for planning is that Blue Mountain is a village resort. Most of what visitors want is walkable from the Village base, and the car park, not the road, is the constraint.
Parking and the Village: what the car needs to know
The Village's parking page, on bluemountainvillage.ca, lists several lots. As of 2026:
- P2 Village Base is paid: the first hour is free, then $15 covers 12 hours from entry and $30 applies to stays over 12 hours, with a 24-hour maximum and no in-and-out privileges.
- P2A Village Base Overflow is free, across the street from P2, and the page warns it fills quickly.
- P3 Inn Base is free, beside the Blue Mountain Inn, with 20 paid EV charging stations.
- P1 and P1A South Base are free, across from South Base Lodge, with reserved bus parking and a seasonal shuttle stop to the Village.
The page does not describe a drop-off area or say whether vehicles may enter the pedestrian village, so we do not promise a particular kerb. Tell us the lodging, the building and the time you want, and the chauffeur will confirm the nearest practical stopping point. Confirm your lodging's arrival rules with the property.
The public-transport reality
There is no direct scheduled public bus from the Muskoka lakes to Blue Mountain that we could confirm. A public journey would mean getting to Barrie first, and from there a county bus. Tourism Barrie's transportation page lists the Simcoe County LINX service, with a Barrie to Wasaga Beach route and a Collingwood to Wasaga Beach route, and it lists Ontario Northland and GO as the long-distance operators serving Barrie. The Tourism Barrie page describes the Allandale terminal as the connection point.
That chain involves at least three changes and a final stretch from Collingwood up to the Village. It exists, but it turns a two-hour drive into a long day, and with skis, boards and boots it is impractical.
Muskoka to Blue Mountain compared
| Mode | Door-to-door | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private car | about 1 h 50 to 2 h 10 from Gravenhurst | fixed fare via booker | by class, up to 12 bags | groups, ski gear, families |
| Drive yourself | about 1 h 50 to 2 h 10 | fuel and parking | your car | two people with a roomy car |
| Public transit via Barrie | several changes, a long day | published fares | one bag | rarely sensible |
Driving yourself is entirely reasonable for a couple with a full tank and a clear forecast. The private car earns its place when the group is three or more, when each person has skis or a board, when someone has had a long flight, when children need car seats, and in winter, when you would rather not make the Highway 26 run with snow in the forecast. It also means a ski day without a designated driver; there is no drinking in our vehicles (a bottle can still be added in the booker as a sealed gift), and the arrangement is simply that someone else drives.
Which vehicle for a ski or summer trip
| Party | Vehicle | Passengers | Bags |
|---|---|---|---|
| Couple | Mercedes E / S-Class | up to 2 | 2 |
| Family of four to six | Business SUV or Executive First Class SUV | up to 6 | 6 |
| Friends' ski weekend | Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) | up to 12 | 12 |
| Executive group | Jet Sprinter Executive | up to 7 | 5 |
Ski gear is long, so state the count of skis, boards and boot bags at booking. A Business SUV that carries 6 bags will not carry 6 bags plus 6 pairs of skis, and a second vehicle is sometimes the sensible answer. All classes are "or similar" and the model is confirmed at booking. The fleet page lists them.
One way, return, or a two-leg trip
Most groups book one of three patterns. The first is a one-way transfer there and a different day back, for a stay at the resort. The second is a same-day return, with the car waiting or returning at a set time, which suits a day on the hill. The third is a multi-stop trip: Gravenhurst, then Barrie for a grocery stop, then Blue Mountain, then back. Return and multi-stop trips are one booking, and hourly hire is a booker mode if you want the car to wait.
If you are arriving from the airport first, we run Pearson to Blue Mountain at about 132 km, and Lake Simcoe Regional Airport at about 82 km. The Pearson page has terminal pickup details, and the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport page covers private aircraft. Every airport pickup includes flight tracking, and the free wait is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one.
The towns you pass or start from
- Gravenhurst is the nearest major Muskoka town to the route, with Highway 11 on its doorstep.
- Bracebridge, Bala and Port Carling add 15 to 30 km each.
- Huntsville is the farthest, at about 175 km.
- Orillia and Barrie are gateways on the way.
For the rest of the lakes, see the Muskoka hub, and for other routes see the routes hub. If you are planning a longer trip, long-distance car service explains how multi-hour days are scheduled.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Blue Mountain from Muskoka?
From Gravenhurst, about 125 km; from Bracebridge about 140 km; from Huntsville about 175 km. Off-peak that is roughly 1 h 50 to 3 h depending on the town. The route runs Highway 11, Highway 12, County Road 22 and Highway 26.
Is there a bus from Muskoka to Blue Mountain?
We could not confirm a direct scheduled bus. A public journey would mean getting to Barrie by Ontario Northland or GO, then using county bus routes toward Wasaga Beach and Collingwood, with several changes. For ski gear it is rarely practical.
How long is the drive from Gravenhurst to Collingwood?
Around 113 km and about 1 h 50 off-peak, with Blue Mountain a further 8 km or so beyond Collingwood. Winter squalls and Friday evening ski traffic can add time, so check Ontario 511 before you leave.
Can you take skis and snowboards?
Yes, within the vehicle's capacity. State the number of skis, boards and boot bags at booking. A Business SUV carries 6 passengers and 6 bags, and an Executive Sprinter 12 and 12; a second vehicle may be sensible for a full group.
Where will the car drop us at Blue Mountain Village?
The Village's parking page does not describe a drop-off area, so we confirm the nearest practical stopping point with your lodging before the trip. Give us the building name and arrival time in the booking note.
Can I book a same-day return?
Yes. Return trips are one booking. Choose a pickup time at the Village that leaves a margin before dark and before the heaviest Sunday traffic, and the car meets you at the time you set.
Does the car work in snow?
Winter trips run as booked, but weather can slow the Highway 26 corridor, and the chauffeur may choose a different route to avoid a closure. Allow extra time on forecast snow days and check Ontario 511 before leaving.
What does the transfer cost?
The booker shows one fixed, all-inclusive fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. There is no meter, and the total has 13% HST included, with nothing added at the end of the trip.
