Peterborough sits on the other side of cottage country from Muskoka. The two regions share a Friday-afternoon habit, but the roads between them are not the famous ones, and there is no Highway 400 on this trip. MuskokaLimousineServices.com books pre-booked chauffeured cars from Peterborough Regional Airport (YPQ), and from any address in the Kawarthas, to Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville and the lakes.
If you searched for "Peterborough airport" or "Kawarthas to Muskoka", this page explains what the airport is, how far each Muskoka town is, and the two roads that make sense.
How do you get from Peterborough airport to Muskoka?
Pre-book a chauffeured car. Gravenhurst is about 150 km and 2 h 30 from the airport by Highway 7, Highway 12 and Highway 11, Bracebridge about 166 km and 2 h 40, and Huntsville about 200 km and 3 h 05, or 190 km and 3 h 15 by Highway 36, Highway 121, Highway 35 and Highway 60. A single fixed fare appears in the booker before you commit.
Both Huntsville routes are within about ten kilometres and ten minutes of each other, so the choice is a matter of weather, traffic and taste. Your chauffeur makes it on the day.
Distances from YPQ to Muskoka
| From YPQ to | Road distance | Typical time off-peak | Main road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gravenhurst | about 150 km | about 2 h 30 | Highway 7, Highway 12, Highway 11 |
| Bracebridge | about 166 km | about 2 h 40 | Highway 7, Highway 12, Highway 11 |
| Huntsville, direct | about 200 km | about 3 h 05 | Highway 7, Highway 12, Highway 11 |
| Huntsville, via Minden | about 190 km | about 3 h 15 | Highway 36, Highway 121, Highway 35, Highway 60 |
These figures are from a route planner and assume clear weather. For Dorset, Baysville, Port Carling or Bala, the booker works out the exact distance from your addresses and shows a fixed fare. The Muskoka hub lists each town.
About Peterborough Regional Airport
The City of Peterborough describes the field on its airport page. The address is 925 Airport Road, the airport is operational 24 hours a day all year, and the fixed base operator is Stewart Aviation, which operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and provides an after-hours call-out service. Operations staff are on site from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. between April 1 and September 30, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. between October 1 and March 31. The page says more than 20 businesses are based there across general aviation, education, training and maintenance, and that a taxiway extension project began on June 1, 2026.
The page does not mention scheduled airline service, charter operators or customs, so this is a transfer for private and business aviation passengers, students and crews, and for anyone who simply wants a fixed-fare ride from the Peterborough area to Muskoka. If your aircraft is arriving from abroad, ask your FBO about customs before you book.
Two practical points follow from those hours. First, an after-hours landing depends on the FBO's call-out service, so confirm it with them. Second, the chauffeur follows your actual arrival time, since flight tracking is on every airport pickup.
Meeting you at Peterborough airport
Tell the booker which FBO or operator you are using, your arrival time and any ramp instruction. The chauffeur meets you at the point the operator allows.
- Meet and Greet service with a name board is a booker add-on, and an alias is available on request.
- Waiting time is free for 30 minutes after a domestic landing and for 60 after an international landing, counted from touchdown.
- Privacy: ask the desk to keep your details private so your name does not appear for the chauffeur, and an NDA can be arranged on request.
- A note with the booking is the place for a hangar number, a gate code or a mobile number for the FBO.
If you are flying a private aircraft, our private jet and FBO transfers page explains how this kind of pickup works.
Two roads across: Highway 7 and the Highlands
The Highway 7 and Highway 12 route. The car heads west on Highway 7 past the Kawartha Lakes, switches to regional roads, then follows Highway 12 across farm country towards Lake Simcoe and Simcoe County Road 169 before joining Highway 11 near the south end of Muskoka. It is the quickest road to Gravenhurst and Bracebridge, and it never touches the Highway 400 interchange.
The Minden and Highway 35 route. Heading north-west through Lindsay, Highway 36 and Highway 121 run by Fenelon Falls and Minden to Highway 35, which reaches Highway 60 near Dorset. It is a quieter, more scenic road for Huntsville, Dorset and Lake of Bays, though the planner treats it as slightly slower.
The southern route suits a holiday Friday because it avoids the busiest stretch of Highway 11 until the last miles. The northern route suits autumn colour, when the Highlands are at their best. For fall-colour planning, read our Muskoka fall colours tour page.
Check Ontario 511 for road conditions, closures and construction. The chauffeur does it before leaving.
Peterborough to Muskoka without a car service
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeured car | about 2 h 30 to 3 h 15 | fixed fare via booker | per vehicle class | pilots, crews, groups, cottage luggage |
| Coach via Toronto, then Ontario Northland | most of a day | separate public fares | coach allowance | solo travellers with no deadline |
| Rental car | about 2 h 30 plus counter time | rental rate plus fuel | your own boot | experienced drivers |
| Private aircraft to Muskoka Airport | per the operator | set by the operator | per aircraft | owners and charter clients |
We know of no direct scheduled coach between Peterborough and Muskoka, and neither Ontario Northland's network nor the Northlander train serves the Kawarthas. The Northlander is not running as of this writing; our Northlander guide tracks the plan.
When the car is the only sensible option
There is rarely a good public alternative here, so the comparison is mostly car versus doing it yourself.
- You have bags. A Business SUV or Executive First Class SUV carries up to 6 passengers and 6 bags, and an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags.
- You are a student or crew member travelling to an event, where several people go to one address.
- You are flying in for a cottage weekend. The cottage transfers page covers groceries, dock gear and key handovers.
- You want to avoid driving. After a flight or a long shift, a chauffeur is safer than a rental.
- You are bringing children. Child seat, toddler seat and booster seat options are in the booker. See family travel.
- You are attending a wedding. The wedding transportation planning guide explains how to schedule arrivals.
When driving yourself is better: if you know the roads, have a vehicle already, and are travelling alone, your own car costs less out of pocket than any chauffeured service. We would say so rather than pretend otherwise.
From the Kawarthas to the lakes, door to door
You do not have to start at the airport. Many bookings begin in Peterborough, Lakefield, Bobcaygeon, Lindsay or a Kawartha cottage and run to Muskoka. Enter the pickup address, the drop-off address and the vehicle, and the booker shows a fixed fare.
For a cottage, give the fire number (the numbered sign at the end of a rural lane, used by emergency services in place of a street address) and the road name, and put gate codes and lane warnings in a note with the booking.
Timing a Friday or Sunday crossing
Peterborough to Muskoka is a side-to-side trip, and that has one advantage: when everyone is driving north from the Greater Toronto Area on a Friday afternoon, you are crossing their route, not joining it. The one place the two streams meet is Highway 11 near Gravenhurst and Bracebridge. A pickup in the early afternoon usually lets the car reach that junction before the evening build-up, and a Sunday departure from Muskoka is best planned before the mid-afternoon return flow.
For a long weekend, read the Thanksgiving and long weekends guide and give the desk your preferred pickup window early. Peak dates can carry a different cancellation deadline, printed on the confirmation, so check it when you book.
Going back: Muskoka to Peterborough airport
For a departure from YPQ, take the planner time from your Muskoka town, add the time the operator wants you at the airfield, and add a buffer for the Highway 12 stretch. If the departure is outside the FBO's staffed hours, confirm that the call-out service will be available before you plan the pickup.
The return can be added to the same booking as the arrival, and extra stops are part of one fare. A coffee in Lindsay or a meal in Minden is an extra stop, not a second ride. Tell the desk the operator and the time.
Corporate and group use
A Jet Sprinter Executive carries up to 7 passengers with 5 bags, and an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers with 12 bags. For a bigger group, coaches seating 20 to 56 can be arranged on request. Corporate accounts can be invoiced monthly, and the travel desk handles itineraries. Stretch limousines, party buses and the Mercedes-Maybach suit evenings rather than airport runs, and Rolls-Royce is on request through the reservations desk, with availability confirmed in writing. See the fleet page.
For other Ontario airports on our list, the airport transfers hub lists them, and the Toronto Pearson page covers the biggest one.
Fare, extras and cancellation
The total the booker displays is fixed and all-inclusive. It reflects your pickup point (the airfield, or a Kawartha address), your Muskoka drop-off and your vehicle class, with HST included and nothing added at the end of the trip. We explain how the fare is set in our fares explainer.
Changing your mind costs more the closer you get to the pickup, counted from its scheduled time. More than 72 hours before: no charge. At 72 hours or less: 10%. At 48 hours or less: 50%. At 24 hours or less, or when no one shows: 100%. Where a peak date has its own deadline, the confirmation prints it.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Peterborough airport from Gravenhurst?
About 150 km by Highway 7, Highway 12 and Highway 11, roughly 2 h 30 off-peak by a route planner. Bracebridge is about 166 km and Huntsville about 200 km. A route via Minden and Highway 35 gets to Huntsville in about 190 km.
Are there airline flights at Peterborough airport?
The City of Peterborough's airport page does not list scheduled airline service. It describes a 24-hour general aviation airport with a fixed base operator and more than 20 businesses in aviation, training and maintenance. Check with your operator for the arrangements of your own flight.
Will someone meet me at the Peterborough FBO?
Yes. Tell the booker which FBO or operator you are using and your arrival time. Flight tracking is on every airport pickup, and free waiting time is 30 minutes after a domestic landing and 60 minutes after an international landing, counted from landing.
What if I land after the FBO closes?
The city's page says Stewart Aviation operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers after-hours call-out service. Confirm that with the FBO before you book a late arrival, and tell us the arrival time so the chauffeur follows your actual landing.
Is there a bus from Peterborough to Muskoka?
We know of no direct scheduled coach. The usual public route is a coach to Toronto and an Ontario Northland coach onward to Bracebridge or Huntsville, which takes most of a day. For a group or luggage, a private car is a much simpler trip.
Which road is better for Huntsville?
The two are within ten kilometres of each other. The Highway 7 and Highway 12 route is a little quicker, and the Minden, Highway 35 and Highway 60 route is quieter and more scenic. Your chauffeur picks on the day based on traffic and weather.
Can I pick up from a Kawartha cottage instead of the airport?
Yes. Enter the cottage's fire number and road name in the booker. A pickup address anywhere in the Kawarthas is handled the same way as an airport pickup, with a fixed fare shown before you pay.
How much is the Peterborough to Muskoka transfer?
Pick the airport or a cottage as the start, add your Muskoka address, and the booker prices that exact journey for your vehicle class, 13% HST included, before you pay. Choosing the Highway 35 road rather than Highway 12 on the day does not alter the quote.
