16 Muskoka towns · 20 airports

Cottage, resort and airport cars from Gravenhurst to Dorset and Parry Sound, to Pearson, Billy Bishop, Muskoka Airport and every major airport in Ontario; fly-in arrivals from the rest of Canada met through the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network.

MuskokaLimousineServices.com books chauffeured cars from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to Muskoka: to Huntsville and Dorset in the north, to Bracebridge, Port Carling and Bala in the middle, and to Gravenhurst and the Severn shore in the south. It is the longest regular road transfer on our airport list, and it is worth reading before you book, because the best answer for some travellers is to keep flying.

The short version: Montréal-Trudeau is about 526 km from Huntsville and about 552 km from Bracebridge, and a route planner puts both near seven and a half hours. Gravenhurst can be reached by two roads of 556 km and 612 km. This is a trip for a group, for a family with real luggage, or for someone who wants a private cabin and a fixed arrival plan after a long-haul landing.

How far is Montreal airport from Muskoka by car?

Montréal-Trudeau to Huntsville is about 526 km, to Bracebridge about 552 km and to Gravenhurst about 556 km via Ottawa, or about 612 km by the southern route along Highway 401. Plan on roughly seven and a half hours of driving off-peak, plus a meal stop, so allow a full day door to door.

Half of the trip is the Ottawa Valley and half is Ontario highway with little traffic. Montreal to Ottawa alone is about 185 km and a little over two hours, which makes Ottawa the natural place to break the journey, eat and refuel before the last five hours.

YUL to each Muskoka town: distance and time

Road distances come from a route planner and are rounded. Times are clear-weather baselines.

From YUL toRoad distanceTypical time off-peakRoute
Huntsvilleabout 526 kmabout 7 h 25Autoroute 40, Highway 417, Highway 17, Highway 60
Bracebridgeabout 552 kmabout 7 h 50Ottawa, then the Highlands road
Gravenhurst, via Ottawaabout 556 kmabout 7 h 50Ottawa, then Highway 118
Gravenhurst, southern routeabout 612 kmabout 7 h 40Autoroute 20 and Highway 401, then Highway 12 and Highway 11

If you are heading to Port Carling, Bala, Rosseau or Dorset, ask the booker for your exact address and the fare will reflect the exact route. For the towns themselves, see the Muskoka hub, which lists each one.

The two roads out of Montreal

The Ottawa corridor. This is the road for Huntsville, Dorset, Lake of Bays and, with the Highlands road, Bracebridge. You leave the island on Autoroute 40, which the planner names the Félix-Leclerc, and keep west until the provincial border, where it becomes Highway 417 on the Ontario side. Highway 417 runs on to the Ottawa area, then Highway 17 to Renfrew and Highway 60 through Algonquin Provincial Park to Huntsville. The 56-kilometre Algonquin stretch is described on the Ontario Parks Algonquin page.

The southern route. For Gravenhurst the planner prefers Autoroute 20 and Highway 401 along the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario, then north via Highway 12 and Highway 11. It is longer by distance, 612 km against 556 km, but quicker by the clock because it is motorway for most of the way. Your chauffeur chooses between them on the day, based on closures, weather and your drop-off address.

Our companion page, Ottawa airport to Muskoka, explains the Highway 60 and Highlands roads in more detail, and the Toronto Pearson page covers the Highway 400 side if your flight changes.

Crossing from Quebec into Ontario

There is no customs stop. Quebec and Ontario are provinces of the same country, and both use the Eastern time zone, so your clock does not move. What changes is the road environment.

  • Signs switch language. Quebec's highways are signed in French. Autoroute is the word for motorway, Ouest is west, Est is east, and Sortie means exit. Ontario signs are in English.
  • Speed limits are in km/h in both provinces, so nothing converts, but the posted number changes with the road type.
  • Island rules differ. Quebec generally allows a right turn at a red light, but the SAAQ states it is prohibited on the island of Montréal, with signs posted at entry points such as bridges, tunnels, ferries and the airport. Your chauffeur knows this; it matters only if you ever drive yourself. See the SAAQ page.
  • Road information changes hands at the border: Ontario's conditions are on Ontario 511, which shows closures, construction and winter conditions.

Breaking the day at Ottawa

Most people who book this trip build in an Ottawa pause. It is the midpoint, the roads are good, and there is a real choice of places to eat.

Three ways to use it:

  1. A lunch stop. Add Ottawa as a waypoint and the chauffeur holds the car while you eat. The booker accepts extra stops on one booking.
  2. An overnight. Arrive in Montreal in the afternoon, sleep in Ottawa, and take the shorter second leg in daylight. The Muskoka to Ottawa page covers the second half in detail.
  3. A mid-trip drop-off. If you only need Ottawa, book Montréal-Trudeau to Ottawa instead and let someone else take the second leg.

Our one firm piece of advice: do not start the Highway 60 leg after dark if you can avoid it.

Meeting you at Montréal-Trudeau

Flight tracking is on every airport pickup, so the chauffeur follows your landing, not the schedule. Free waiting time is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, which suits a Montréal arrival because many long-haul flights land here and passengers clear immigration and customs before they reach the pickup.

You have two choices for the handover:

  • Meet and greet inside arrivals, with a chauffeur holding a name board. You can use an alias.
  • Curb pickup, where you receive the car details and a call when the chauffeur is close.

The exact pickup instruction for your flight is printed on your confirmation. If your plans change before you fly, the reservations desk can amend the booking, and the cancellation terms below apply.

Montreal to Muskoka without a private car

Here is the honest comparison.

Private chauffeured carabout 7 h 30 to 9 h with stopsfixed fare via bookerper vehicle classgroups, families, long-haul arrivals
Fly Montreal to Toronto, then car to Muskokaabout 6 to 7 h from check-inairline fare plus fixed-fare ground legairline allowancesolo travellers, tight schedules
Train or coach to Ottawa or Toronto, then Ontario Northlanda full day or moreseparate public farescarry-on friendlyno-rush solo travellers
Rental carabout 7 h 30 plus pickuprental rate plus fuelyour own bootexperienced drivers

Flying is the best choice for many solo travellers. Airlines connect Montréal and Toronto many times a day, and a ground leg from Toronto Pearson to Gravenhurst is a fraction of the Montréal drive. If you land at YUL from overseas, a domestic hop to Toronto may mean a second security check and a missed bag, so weigh that against a long drive in a private cabin.

When the car beats the flight

Pay attention to these cases, because they flip the comparison.

  • Four or more travellers. A Business SUV carries up to 6 passengers with 6 bags, and an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 with 12 bags. Six airline tickets and six sets of baggage fees exceed one vehicle and one chauffeur.
  • A long-haul arrival. After a nine-hour flight, a domestic connection and a second terminal are more work than a quiet back seat.
  • Cottage luggage. Skis, kayak paddles, coolers and a case of wine cannot travel as airline carry-on.
  • Children. Child seat, toddler seat and booster seat options are in the booker, and you control the stops. See family travel.
  • A wedding or reunion gathering at a Muskoka venue. The wedding transportation planning guide explains how to schedule the arrivals.

For groups, the Sprinter and group transportation page covers the big vehicles.

Choosing the vehicle

Pick the class by passenger count and baggage. An Executive Sedan carries up to 3 with 2 large bags, a Mercedes E / S-Class up to 2 with 2, a Business SUV or Executive First Class SUV up to 6 with 6, an Executive Sprinter up to 12 with 12, and a Jet Sprinter Executive up to 7 with 5 bags. Cars are listed as "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed when you book. Stretch limousines and party buses carry little luggage, so they suit a Muskoka evening rather than an airport run. See the fleet page.

Winter and holiday weekends

Between late autumn and March, snow squalls are normal along the Ottawa Valley, and Algonquin's Highway 60 corridor is not a road to push through in the dark. Check Ontario 511 before you fly, and consider an Ottawa overnight on any day with a weather advisory.

Long weekends are different: cottage traffic concentrates on Highway 400 and Highway 11, and the Ottawa route never touches either, which is one reason it can suit Huntsville and Dorset on a holiday Friday. For the southern jam, read our Highway 400 and Highway 11 guide.

Going back: Muskoka to Montreal airport

For a morning departure from YUL, expect to leave Muskoka the previous afternoon and sleep in Montreal or Ottawa, because the drive alone eats most of a day. For an evening international departure, an early-morning start from Huntsville works, but build a margin for check-in, which for transatlantic flights is typically well before departure.

Tell the desk the airline, the terminal and the time you want to be at the counter, and we will work back from there. If you also need the other direction, the Muskoka to Montreal route page covers the city-centre version of this trip, and the airport transfers hub lists every airport.

Fare, extras and cancellation

Before you commit, the booker prices the whole run, Montréal-Trudeau to your Muskoka door, as a single all-inclusive figure. HST is included, nothing is added at the end of the trip, and nothing changes once you have paid. Our guide to private car fares walks through the logic.

Notice is measured back from the scheduled pickup time. Beyond 72 hours there is no charge; from 72 hours it is 10%; from 48 hours it is 50%; and from 24 hours, or on a no-show, the full amount applies. Where a holiday weekend or a big event needs an earlier cut-off, your confirmation prints it.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Montreal airport from Huntsville?

About 526 km by Autoroute 40, Highway 417, Highway 17 and Highway 60 through Algonquin Park. A route planner estimates around 7 h 25 off-peak, before any meal stop. Bracebridge is about 552 km and Gravenhurst about 556 km via Ottawa.

Is there a customs stop between Quebec and Ontario?

No. They are provinces of one country, in the same time zone. The only changes are the language on road signs and some local rules. Your chauffeur handles the route, and a lunch break in Ottawa is the usual midpoint.

Do I need to speak French to travel from Montreal airport?

No. The booker and your confirmation are in English. Road signs in Quebec are in French, which is helpful to know if you ever rent a car yourself: Ouest means west, Est means east and Sortie means exit.

How long does the chauffeur wait after an international flight?

Free waiting time is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, counted from landing, with flight tracking on every airport pickup. The Meet and Greet service inside arrivals is a booker add-on, with an alias available if you prefer.

Is it better to fly from Montreal to Toronto and then take a car?

For one or two travellers with light luggage, often yes. For a family, a wedding party, or anyone arriving from overseas with several bags, a single private journey avoids a second security check and a second terminal. Compare both in the table above.

Can the car stop in Ottawa on the way?

Yes. Add Ottawa as an extra stop on the same booking, for a meal or an overnight. The fare is still fixed and shown by the booker before you pay. For a longer break, split the journey into two bookings with the Ottawa hotel in the middle.

Can I take a child seat from Montreal to Muskoka?

Yes, all three seat types can be added when you book. Over a seven-hour drive, families tend to add a planned stop every two hours or so, and the chauffeur adapts the pace to the children.

How much does a Montreal airport to Muskoka transfer cost?

Put your flight details and your Muskoka address into the booker and it prices the whole journey for the vehicle you pick, tax included, before you pay. For a trip of this length, comparing vehicle classes on screen takes under a minute.
