Quebec City is the closest of the six cities on our Canada list, in miles and in minutes, but "closest" is relative. It is about 780 km from Huntsville by the road through Ottawa, and a full working day at the wheel. MuskokaLimousineServices.com finds that the real question for Quebec City travellers is whether to fly or drive, and this page sets out which makes sense for which trip, with distances and times you can check before you decide.
How do you get from Quebec City to Muskoka?
Fly Quebec City (YQB) to Toronto Pearson in about 1 h 35, then take a chauffeured car roughly 170 km north to Gravenhurst, a drive of 1 h 46 off-peak. Driving the whole way via Ottawa is about 780 km to Huntsville and takes 9 to 10 hours, so flying is usually the better choice.
Quebec and Ontario are in the same time zone, so there is no clock arithmetic to confuse the booking. The flight is the shortest in this series. What matters is how the day lines up at both ends: the early hours in Quebec, and the Toronto traffic when you land.
Fly or drive: the 780 km question
The road distance is the number that changes minds. Route planners put Quebec City to Ottawa at about 425 to 450 km, taking 4.5 to 5.5 hours. Ottawa to Huntsville adds about 342 km and 4 h 48 to 5 h 17. Together, that is roughly 780 km and 9 to 10 hours of driving with no stops, and a long day with meals, fuel and traffic.
| Option | Distance | Elapsed time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fly to Pearson, then private car | about 1 h 35 in the air plus 170 km by road | about 6 to 7 hours door to door | Fixed fare via booker for the car legs; airline fare separate | One-way trips, families, short stays |
| Drive yourself via Ottawa | about 780 km to Huntsville | 9 to 10 hours before stops | Fuel and any overnight stop | A month-long stay with lots of gear |
| VIA Rail to Toronto, then onward | rail plus road | about 9 to 11 hours to Toronto per schedule sites | Set by VIA Rail | Travellers who love trains |
Driving makes sense when you need your own car in Muskoka for weeks, when you are moving a canoe or a boat, or when you are bringing a lot of equipment. Almost every other trip is shorter and calmer by air. The sums are plain: a flight is under two hours, while the road is more than nine.

Flight figures are published ranges from schedule sites. Your airline's own timetable is the authority for the date you travel.
The flight, and how it shapes the day
With no time difference, a 09:00 departure from Quebec City lands in Toronto at about 10:35. Collect your bags and you can be in the car at 11:20 and in Gravenhurst a little after 13:00 on a weekday. That is a morning flight that gives you a whole afternoon at the lake, which is very difficult to match from any other Canadian city.
The catch is Friday. A cottage-bound Friday departure that lands at 10:35 clears Toronto before the weekend rush, but a Friday afternoon flight meets it head-on. If your dates are flexible, choose a mid-week flight, or fly out on a Thursday. The highway traffic guide shows which hours are worst.
The Quebec City end
The Jean Lesage airport lies about 15 to 18 km from the Old City, a drive of 20 to 25 minutes in normal conditions. The airport site lists its transport section and car rental and links to its taxi page; confirm pickup details there before you travel. Winter conditions can slow the run, so allow more time between December and March.
We do not operate vehicles in Québec. When your trip starts in Quebec City, the car at that end is supplied by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, with vehicles no more than four model years old, and our desk books and supports it. If you are in the Old City with a short walk to the Château Frontenac, a taxi to the airport is a sound choice. A pre-booked car is better for early departures, family groups and heavy bags.
At Pearson: the leg we drive to the lakes
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and waits at arrivals. A domestic landing includes 30 minutes of free waiting. You can add the Meet and Greet service inside arrivals, request an alias on the name board, ask the desk to keep your details private and leave a note with the booking. Quebec visitors with young children can choose child seat, toddler seat or booster seat options in the booker.
The route follows Highway 400 to Barrie and then Highway 11 north to Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville. The Pearson page explains the terminals, and the Toronto to Muskoka route page compares every other mode in the corridor.
A morning departure, hour by hour
A typical weekday plan, in local times, with no time-zone change to adjust for.
- 06:30 The Quebec City partner car collects you.
- 07:15 You reach Jean Lesage Airport and check in.
- 09:00 The flight departs.
- 10:35 You land at Pearson.
- 11:20 Bags are collected, and you meet the chauffeur at arrivals.
- 13:05 You reach Gravenhurst, about 170 km north, with the afternoon ahead of you.
Compare that with the drive. Leaving Quebec City at the same 06:30 puts you in Huntsville in the middle of the afternoon at the very earliest, with no stops, and later with any meal break.
Why not just drive from Quebec City?
Some travellers do, and we would not discourage them. The route runs west through Montréal to Ottawa, then on toward Huntsville, and route planners differ on the exact roads for the last 340 km. You arrive with your own car, which is the one real advantage.
A private car for the whole 780 km would begin outside Ontario, so the desk would need to confirm what the partner network can cover for your date before you commit. For most trips, flying and a Pearson pickup is simpler. If you are heading on to Ottawa or Montreal after Muskoka, the Muskoka to Ottawa route page and the Muskoka to Montreal route page describe the roads from the Ontario side.
Landline coach, buses and the train
Air Canada's Landline coach connects Pearson with Muskoka Airport. As announced by Air Canada, the coach started on 15 June 2026 and leaves Pearson at 08:00 and 19:15. A flight from Quebec City that lands at 07:35 gives you 25 minutes to collect bags and reach the coach, which is too tight to recommend. A flight at 10:35 misses the morning coach by hours.
Discover Muskoka lists Ontario Northland coaches from Toronto's Union Station and Yorkdale terminals and FlixBus service from Pearson on Thursday to Monday. The Northlander train has been proposed, with stops at Washago, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville, but at the time of writing it has not launched. See the Northlander guide for developments.

Autumn in two provinces
October is the month that draws people from Quebec City to Muskoka. Leaf colour in Muskoka usually peaks from late September into early October, and Thanksgiving weekend, the second Monday of October, brings the heaviest traffic on Highway 11. Read the Thanksgiving and long weekends guide before you choose your dates, and the fall colours tour page if you want a guided day.
Seasonal attractions set their own end-of-season dates, so check the Muskoka attractions hub for anything you plan to visit.
Getting home to Quebec City
For a 12:00 flight from Pearson to Quebec City, a pickup in Gravenhurst around 06:30 on a weekday is sensible. On a Sunday afternoon in summer, add an hour or more, because southbound traffic builds from midday. In Quebec City, the partner car meets you at arrivals. Ontario 511 shows roadworks and cameras before you leave the lake.
Fares and booking
If Quebec City is one stop on a longer trip, the airport transfers hub and the routes hub show the other options, and the Muskoka hub lists the towns.
The booker gives one fixed, all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. HST is included, and nothing is added at the end of the trip. We do not publish a rate card. Cancellation terms are printed on your confirmation and counted from the scheduled pickup.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a direct flight from Quebec City to Muskoka?
No scheduled airline flies from Quebec City to Muskoka Airport. You fly non-stop to Toronto Pearson in about 1 h 35, then travel about 170 km by road to Gravenhurst. The Air Canada Landline coach also runs from Pearson to Muskoka Airport.
How far is it to drive from Quebec City to Muskoka?
Route planners suggest about 425 to 450 km from Quebec City to Ottawa and about 342 km from Ottawa to Huntsville. Together that is roughly 780 km, a drive of 9 to 10 hours before stops. Gravenhurst is further south, so expect more.
Is there a time difference between Quebec City and Muskoka?
No. Both are on Eastern time, so a 09:00 departure from Quebec City lands in Toronto at about 10:35. That makes Quebec City the simplest Canadian origin for planning a same-day arrival.
Can I take the train?
VIA Rail runs between Quebec City and Toronto via Montréal, and schedule sites list about 9 to 11 hours with a connection. The train ends at Toronto Union Station, not in Muskoka. The Northlander has not yet launched, so a road transfer or coach is needed for the last leg.
Do you have cars in Quebec City?
We have no vehicles or offices in Québec. The Quebec City airport car is provided by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, booked and supported by our desk, in a vehicle no more than four model years old.
Which is quicker, flying or driving?
Flying. The air trip is under two hours, plus Pearson to the lake in about 1 h 46 off-peak. The road is 9 to 10 hours before stops. Driving only makes sense if you need your own car in Muskoka.
What if my flight is delayed?
Because we follow the flight, a late landing moves the pickup automatically. Half an hour of waiting after a domestic arrival is included. Report a very long delay to the desk.
