MuskokaLimousineServices.com books chauffeured transfers to Windermere House, the Victorian lakeside resort at 2508 Windermere Road in the village of Windermere on Lake Rosseau. If you searched for Windermere House because you are heading there for a stay, a wedding or Sunday tea and want to know how to get there from Toronto without driving yourself, this page covers the distance, the road, the alternatives and the details that catch visitors out.

Windermere is quieter than Port Carling and farther from Highway 11 than most guests expect. That distance is exactly why a pre-booked car often makes sense for a first visit.

How far is Windermere House from Toronto Pearson?

Windermere House is about 219 km from Toronto Pearson, usually 2 h 30 – 3 h off-peak. From Muskoka Airport (YQA) it is about 45 km and 45 – 55 minutes. On a summer Friday afternoon or the Sunday of a long weekend, add an hour or more to the motorway part of the trip.

The resort's own directions send drivers up Highway 400, then Highway 169 north for roughly 17 to 20 km to the Windermere Road intersection, where you turn left. Windermere Road is Muskoka District Road 4, and the resort is on it. From Muskoka Airport the resort's route heads southwest on Airport Road and then follows a series of turns onto Windermere Road, with the resort on the right. Our chauffeurs use whichever approach is moving best on the day, and they do not rely on a satnav for the final turns.

What Windermere House is, and what that means for a driver

According to the Windermere House site, the hotel has operated since 1870 as a Victorian landmark on the shores of Lake Rosseau. Rooms range from Gardenview and Lakeview rooms and a Premium Lakeview Balcony to the Platinum Suite, the Longhurst Suite and the Two Bedroom Platinum Suite, plus the Windermere Cottage, a private four-bedroom historic cottage. The site also lists a spa, a heated pool, a sauna, water sports and golf at Windermere Golf & Country Club.

Food and drink run from a lake-view dining room to the Windermere Pub, which has a lakeside patio and live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a lobby bar. Sunday High Tea runs from noon to 2 pm. Hours are seasonal, so confirm with the resort before you plan around a particular room or event.

For a transfer, three of those details matter:

  • The cottage sleeps a group. A four-bedroom cottage means one arrival with a lot of bags. Choose a Business SUV or an Executive Sprinter, not a sedan.
  • Evenings have live music. A Friday or Saturday supper at the pub or lobby bar changes the return-ride question. Book a pickup time rather than hoping for a cab outside a small village at 11 pm.
  • Sunday tea has a fixed hour. If you are travelling up on Sunday morning for High Tea at noon, the departure time works backwards from noon.

The Discover Muskoka bus guide lists the coach options: FlixBus from Union Station and Pearson, Ontario Northland from Union Station and Yorkdale, and the Air Canada Landline coach between Pearson and Muskoka Airport. None of the Muskoka stops is in Windermere, so every coach trip needs a final car leg. Check each operator for timetables.

When a coach is the better choice: you are travelling alone with light luggage and your arrival time is flexible. When the private car is better: three or more travellers, resort luggage, children and car seats, a late flight, a wedding-day timetable, or any trip where you want to step out of the airport and into a waiting car. The 407 ETR, if you drive, is the toll motorway north of Toronto that bills by licence plate with no booths.

Arriving by boat: the Windermere wharf

Many guests arrive by water. The resort's site gives coordinates for boat arrivals (45.1643° N, 79.5496° W) and says it has designated docking areas, with staff instructions or signage on arrival. It advises contacting the resort in advance about docking.

The Township of Muskoka Lakes also lists the Windermere Wharf at 2510 Windermere Road and the Maple Leaf Bay Dock at 1007 Maple Leaf Bay Road, both on Lake Rosseau. Per the Township's docks and boat launches page, they are managed by a wharf manager and carry fees for pleasure craft; as of 2026 the daily rate (or after four hours) is $1 per foot of boat length with a minimum of $15, and the municipal summer season runs from 1 April to 30 September. Rules and fees change, so check the page before you go.

A car cannot drive onto a dock and chauffeurs do not board boats, but we can coordinate a pickup at the wharf. Give the dock name and a time in your booking note. The marina and boat-launch transfers page explains the approach.

Windermere House weddings: guest transport that holds a timetable

The resort hosts weddings, corporate meetings and social events. At the time of writing its site notes that wedding dates from May through early December are fully booked for 2026, which tells you two things: weekends in the season are tight, and every guest car needs to be planned months ahead.

A wedding transport plan has four moving parts:

  1. Guest arrivals. Guests land at different airports and times. Build a schedule of pickups from Pearson, Muskoka Airport and the Highway 11 corridor.
  2. The couple. A Mercedes E / S-Class or a Mercedes-Maybach, with availability confirmed at booking, for the ceremony arrival or the exit. A Rolls-Royce is on request through the reservations desk, with availability confirmed in writing.
  3. The shuttle loop. An Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers and 12 bags, so a Sprinter or two can run guests between accommodation and the ceremony.
  4. The after-party and the late night. Hourly hire holds a car at the venue while the evening runs.

See the Muskoka wedding limo page for venue-by-venue logistics and the wedding transportation planning guide for a timeline. The cancellation terms are counted from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours' notice no charge; 72 hours or less 10%; 48 hours or less 50%; 24 hours or less or no-show 100%. Peak dates, including big weddings, may carry a different deadline, printed on the confirmation.

Is a stretch limousine or party bus right for a Windermere trip?

Stretch Limousine (sedan, up to 8 passengers) and Stretch SUV Limousine (up to 14) are for celebration travel, not for heavy luggage. Party Bus carries up to 14. None has much luggage room, so a group that wants one needs a second vehicle for bags. Availability for stretch and party-bus classes is confirmed at booking.

On narrow country roads such as Windermere Road, a stretch limousine suits a short run between a venue and a photo location better than a long haul from Toronto. For the long haul, a Sprinter is more comfortable. Read the party bus and stretch limo page for the trade-offs.

Weekend timing and the Friday pinch

Windermere is the sort of place where a Friday arrival matters. Highway 400 and Highway 11 northbound from midday on a summer Friday are the slowest hours of the week, and the Windermere Road approach adds a two-lane finish.

  • Leave early. Before midday on Friday, or after 7 pm.
  • Give the Sunday return slack. A Sunday flight from Pearson needs the car away from Windermere by late morning.
  • Plan long weekends separately. The long weekends guide covers Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday and Thanksgiving.

A fixed fare does not change when traffic does. The booker shows the fare before you pay.

Around Windermere: neighbouring places to see

Port Carling, about 19 km away, has the locks and the Muskoka Lakes Museum; see the Port Carling page. Rosseau and Minett lie to the north; see Rosseau and Minett. Other resorts nearby include JW Marriott The Rosseau and Sherwood Inn, and the resorts hub lists the rest. The Muskoka hub covers every town we serve.

Winter and fall

The resort's site lists events through the year, including a Thanksgiving brunch in 2026, so it is not only a summer destination. Winter transfers need extra time. Check Ontario 511, which reports road conditions, closures and camera images for provincial highways, before you leave. See winter and ski transfers and the fall colours tour.

How the fare is shown

There is no price table here. The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. Taxes and fees are in the total, with the 13% HST included. The fare guide explains how the all-in fare works.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Windermere House from Toronto?

About 219 km from Toronto Pearson, usually 2 h 30 – 3 h off-peak. On a summer Friday afternoon allow an extra hour or more. The route is Highway 400, Highway 169 north, then left onto Windermere Road.

What is the nearest airport to Windermere House?

Muskoka Airport (YQA), about 45 km and 45 – 55 minutes away. Pearson has far more flights but is a much longer drive. Scheduled airline service to YQA has been seasonal, so check the carrier for your date.

Does Windermere House provide an airport shuttle?

The resort's site does not mention a shuttle. Call the resort to ask. A pre-booked car from MuskokaLimousineServices.com gives you a fixed fare, flight tracking and optional meet and greet inside arrivals.

Is there a bus to Windermere?

No coach stops in Windermere. FlixBus and Ontario Northland serve Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville, and Air Canada Landline runs between Pearson and Muskoka Airport. You would need a car for the last leg.

Can I get a car for a wedding at Windermere House?

Yes. We plan guest arrivals, couple cars and shuttle loops. Availability for Mercedes-Maybach, stretch limousine and party bus is confirmed at booking, and Rolls-Royce is on request through the reservations desk, with availability confirmed in writing. Peak wedding dates may carry a different cancellation deadline, printed on the confirmation.

Can the car wait while we have tea or dinner?

Yes, on an hourly hire, which is a booker mode. Give the reservation time in the note. A driver can wait or return at an agreed time, and a return trip is part of one booking.

What if my flight is delayed?

Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup. Waiting is free for 60 minutes after international landings and 30 after domestic ones. Other pickups include 15 minutes.

What does a Windermere House transfer cost?

The booker shows the fixed all-in fare for your exact pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. We do not publish a rate table, because the fare changes with the route and the vehicle class you choose.
