Casino Rama: how the trip works
Casino Rama Resort sits on Rama Road at Rama, east of Orillia, and its own website, casinorama.com, gives the address as 5899 Rama Road, Rama, Ontario. The same site says you must be 19 or older with valid government-issued photo identification to enter, and lists the casino as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also links to coach and charter bus services for larger groups.
The casino is a popular destination for groups of friends, bachelorette and bachelor weekends, corporate nights out and show nights, and the logistics are the point. A pre-booked car has three advantages over the cab you hope will be waiting at closing time. The return is booked before you leave, so no one is phoning at 1 am. Downtown Orillia, the Opera House and the waterfront
Orillia calls itself the Sunshine City, and Visit Orillia's site, visitorillia.ca, presents the waterfront trails along Lake Couchiching, the marinas, downtown boutiques and the Orillia Farmers' Market. The city's own site lists that market as a Saturday-morning fixture at the public library, year-round.
The Orillia Opera House, whose box office and website are at orilliaoperahouse.ca, lists concerts, comedy and theatre all year, with a summer theatre series. On the autumn 2026 calendar it shows a Susan Aglukark concert on November 20 and the Mariposa Arts Theatre production of Macbeth from November 5 to 15. A theatre night is a natural booking: the car arrives at the stage door at curtain-down, not after a search for a cab on Mississaga Street.
The Stephen Leacock Museum, which honours the Orillia humorist, holds seasonal events such as the Ghost Walks the city lists for October 28 on the museum grounds. Check the city calendar for current dates before you plan around them.
Mariposa Folk Festival and summer weekends
The Mariposa Folk Festival is Orillia's best-known summer event. The festival's site, mariposafolk.com, lists its 2027 dates as July 9 to 11 and puts the office at 10 Peter Street South. Its 2026 dates are not shown on the pages we could read, so for 2026 and later years, check with the festival.
Festival weekends and long summer Fridays are the busiest times for the roads around Orillia, for parking downtown and for hotel check-in. A pre-booked car lets you arrive at the festival's drop-off area without searching for a space, and the return can be timed to match the final act. Public transport in and out of Orillia
The Ontario Northland coach on the Toronto, Barrie, Parry Sound and Sudbury route serves Orillia, but not with every trip. On the schedule effective August 30, 2026, the northbound trip leaving Union Station Bus Terminal at 10:00 reaches the Orillia Transit Terminal at 12:47, about 2 h 47 after leaving. Southbound, coaches call at the terminal and at Memorial Avenue, at 17:22 and 17:30 on one trip and 20:49 and 20:56 on another. Read the timetable PDF before you plan around those times.

The coach is good value for a solo traveller on a weekday afternoon. A local cab is the right tool for a 10-minute ride. The private car wins when the trip is long, late or shared: a flight that lands after dark, a table of eight leaving the casino, a family with car seats and groceries heading on to a cottage, or any trip where you would not want to stand on a kerb waiting for a driver to answer a phone.
Orillia as a gateway to Muskoka
Many guests come through Orillia on their way somewhere else. It is the last large town before the road begins to feel like cottage country, and a stop for groceries, fuel or a coffee is part of the ritual. If you are heading north, the onward run to Gravenhurst is about 39 km, to Bracebridge about 56 km and to Huntsville about 90 km.
