"Muskoka airport" is one of the most searched phrases in the region, and it means two different things. Some people are pilots or charter passengers with an actual arrival at YQA. Others want the airport nearest Muskoka and discover that the busy one is Toronto Pearson, 170 km away. This page is for both. MuskokaLimousineServices.com runs pre-booked chauffeured cars to and from Muskoka Airport, and the other half of the page explains what the airport is, what it is not, and how to get the final leg right.
What is Muskoka Airport (YQA), and how do you get from it to your destination?
Muskoka Airport (YQA) is a municipally owned airport at 1011 Airport Road, Gravenhurst, about 9 km from Gravenhurst and 10 km from Bracebridge. It handles charter, corporate and general aviation. A pre-booked chauffeured car meets you there and drives to any Muskoka town, resort or cottage road.
The address, ownership and role come from the District Municipality of Muskoka's page about YQA. The District owns the airport, and a municipal service corporation, Muskoka Airport Inc., has operated it since July 2025. The distance to Gravenhurst and Bracebridge is the airport's own travel guidance.

It is a small airfield with a public terminal building, a pilot's lounge that is open 24 hours a day, and a public apron of just over two hectares. The terminal also houses the Little Norway Memorial, added in 2007. It is not an airline hub, and the airport describes itself as supporting commercial, corporate and general aviation alike.
Who actually flies into Muskoka Airport
Four groups arrive here, and each has a different transfer problem.
- Private and corporate flights. Business jets and turboprops bring guests to resorts and corporate retreats. The pilot handles the paperwork; you need a car at the apron.
- Charter passengers. Groups chartering from Toronto, Ottawa or the United States land at YQA instead of driving 170 km. For the broader picture of aircraft services, see our private jet and FBO transfers page.
- Passengers on the Air Canada Landline coach. The coach does not fly, but it links Pearson and YQA twice a day and terminates here.
- Recreational pilots and cottage owners flying their own planes. They may want a car for a weekend, or a ride from the apron to the village.
A short history that still shapes arrivals
The District's page notes that the airfield's 6,000-foot paved runway dates to the 1950s and that scheduled service to Toronto began in the mid-1950s with Trans Canada Airlines. Scheduled passenger flying has come and gone since. What has stayed is the airport's role as a working field: air ambulance flights, utility and agency aircraft, and water-bombers staged there during high fire-risk periods all use it. For a visitor, the practical effect is that the apron is shared, schedules shift, and nothing about an arrival here is as fixed as a Pearson gate.
Planning an arrival at a small airfield
A little preparation removes most of the friction.
- Agree the meeting point with your pilot or charter operator before you land, and put it in a note with the booking.
- Tell the reservations desk if your departure airport changes, because the chauffeur needs the landing time, not just the booking time.
- Pack with the vehicle class in mind. An Executive Sedan carries 3 passengers and 2 large bags; a private-jet group with golf clubs and four suitcases belongs in an SUV or a Sprinter.
- Allow for weather. Cottage country fog and autumn rain can change a landing time without warning, and the chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts.
- If you are arriving for a wedding, build in an hour of slack. Our Muskoka wedding transportation guide explains the timeline.
What happened to the Porter flights
Many visitors expect a scheduled flight from Toronto's island airport. Porter first flew a seasonal Billy Bishop to Muskoka route in 2019, resumed it in 2022 with twice-weekly flights of about 20 to 30 minutes, and announced in January 2023 that it was discontinuing the service as it expanded at Pearson and elsewhere. Cottage Life reported the announcement, and we found no confirmed return of a scheduled airline route into YQA for 2026. If an airline announces one, the airline's own site is the place to confirm dates before you plan a trip around it. Our Billy Bishop transfers page explains the Toronto end.
The Air Canada Landline coach
The one scheduled link is a coach. The Town of Gravenhurst's transportation page describes Air Canada Landline as two direct luxury coaches daily to Toronto Pearson, a 36-seat accessible coach with Wi-Fi and charging stations. It is free when booked directly at aircanada.com with Muskoka Airport as the start or end point, and standalone seats are sold on the Landline site. The page also notes a premium lounge at the airport.
If you are flying Air Canada into Pearson, and your onward plan is a hotel in Gravenhurst, the coach makes sense. The gap is the last leg: the coach ends at the airport, 9 km from town. For a cottage 40 km up a lake road, you need a car anyway.
Drive times from YQA to Muskoka's towns
The distances below are road figures rounded from the airport guidance and from route planners. Times are typical off-peak figures; on a summer weekend add a margin, and check Ontario 511 for live conditions.
| Destination | Road distance from YQA | Typical time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gravenhurst town and the Muskoka Wharf | About 9 km | 10 to 15 min | Down Airport Road and onto the Gravenhurst side |
| Bracebridge | About 10 km | 10 to 15 min | The closest large town to the airport |
| Huntsville | About 45 km | 35 to 40 min | Via Bracebridge on Highway 11 |
| Toronto Pearson | About 170 km | 1 h 45 to 2 h off-peak; 3 h to 3 h 30 on a summer Friday | Same corridor as Gravenhurst |
For the other towns see our pages for Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Port Carling, Bala and Huntsville. We do not list times we have not checked against a route planner, so the longer legs are quoted by the booker for your exact addresses.
Customs and international arrivals
Muskoka Airport is designated by the Canada Border Services Agency as an Airport of Entry, so international aircraft, including many from the United States, can clear customs here. The clearance happens on the public apron and arrangements depend on CBSA hours and advance notice, so ask your charter operator what applies on your date. We do not set those rules and we do not clear anyone through customs.
What we can control is the waiting time. Our free waiting is 60 minutes after international landings and 30 after domestic landings, so a charter that lands, clears customs and unloads is not racing a meter. The chauffeur sees the flight, not just the scheduled time.
Parking, the terminal and meeting your chauffeur
The town's page says free parking at Muskoka Airport lasts until December 31, 2026. If you are driving yourself to meet an arriving party, that helps. If you are being collected, the chauffeur waits inside the terminal building with a name board when you add the Meet and Greet service in the booker, and can use an alias name on request. For private aircraft, add the operator, the tail number if you have it, and where the aircraft will park to a note with the booking.
Muskoka airport shuttle or pre-booked car: the honest comparison
There is no shared shuttle that the airport runs for passengers. The Landline coach is the only scheduled one, and it goes to Pearson. Here is how the options compare from YQA to a Gravenhurst, Bracebridge or Huntsville address.
| Mode | Door-to-door | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeured car | 10 to 40 min depending on the town | Fixed fare via the booker | Per vehicle class | Groups, resorts, late arrivals, privacy |
| Local taxi | 10 to 40 min | Metered | A few bags | A lone traveller with no booking |
| Landline coach to Pearson | Coach time plus the airport at the other end | Free with an Air Canada booking on aircanada.com | Checked through | Air Canada passengers heading to Toronto |
For a single traveller with two bags arriving at a decent hour, a local cab is a perfectly reasonable choice. The car wins when you are three or more, bringing cottage supplies, landing late, or needing to arrive at a wedding on time.
Connecting from Pearson or Billy Bishop
Many YQA passengers connect through Toronto. From Pearson the flagship page is Toronto Pearson YYZ, with terminals, pickup points and waiting rules. If you are flying into the island airport, the Billy Bishop page covers the tunnel and ferry. Our full list is in the airport transfers hub.
Booking a car at Muskoka Airport

Asking the desk to keep your details private, and NDAs on request, are useful for corporate and private-aircraft arrivals. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips. Our chauffeurs are not security officers, though a VIP security guard can be added in the booker, and we also work alongside a client's own security team. Our Muskoka airport limo page covers the service in more detail.
