Nova Scotia and Muskoka share more than people think. Both are places where summer runs on water, and both send a great many families back and forth between the Atlantic coast and Ontario. MuskokaLimousineServices.com handles the Ontario half of that journey and coordinates the Halifax half. This page walks through the whole trip from Stanfield airport to a Muskoka dock, with times that allow for the one thing that confuses Atlantic travellers: the clock.
How do you get from Halifax to Muskoka?
Fly non-stop from Halifax (YHZ) to Toronto in about 2 h 45, then take a chauffeured car about 170 km north from Pearson to Gravenhurst, a drive of 1 h 46 off-peak. Muskoka Airport has no scheduled flights from Nova Scotia, so Toronto is the gateway, and a pre-booked car completes the trip.
The structure is simple, but the details reward a little planning. Halifax Stanfield is a good distance from the city. The flight crosses a time zone in the wrong direction for early risers. Toronto has two commercial airports, and which one you land at changes where the chauffeur meets you.
Halifax to Muskoka at a glance
| Leg | Distance | Typical time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown Halifax to Stanfield | about 35 km | 35 to 45 minutes | Highway 102; longer at rush hour |
| Halifax to Toronto, non-stop | about 1,300 km in the air | about 2 h 15 to 2 h 50 | Westbound is the longer direction |
| Time difference | 1 hour | Ontario is an hour behind Nova Scotia | |
| Pearson to Gravenhurst | about 170 km | 1 h 46 off-peak | Allow 3 h 30 on a summer Friday |
| Pearson to Bracebridge | about 185 km | about 2 h | Highway 11 beyond Barrie |
| Pearson to Huntsville | about 220 km | about 2 h 30 | Highway 11 north of Bracebridge |
Flight times are ranges published by schedule sites. Air Canada and WestJet are listed to Toronto Pearson, and Porter to Billy Bishop, but check each airline for the schedule on your travel date.
Losing an hour: how the Atlantic clock changes your day
Nova Scotia keeps Atlantic time, one hour ahead of Ontario. Flying west loses nothing in elapsed time, but it makes the clock look generous. A 08:00 departure from Halifax is 07:00 in Ontario. Add a flight of 2 h 45 and you land at 09:45 Toronto time, a lot earlier than a traveller from the prairies would expect.
That has two practical effects. First, an early flight from Halifax means getting up in the dark, because an 08:00 flight puts you at the airport by 06:00 in a city 35 km away. Second, a chauffeur arriving at Pearson at 09:45 on a weekday can have you in Gravenhurst by 12:30, in time for lunch on the Wharf. Tell your host the landing time in Ontario time, and add your own buffer for baggage.
The Halifax end
Halifax Stanfield is at Goffs, near Enfield, about 35 km north-east of downtown by road. The drive on Highway 102 takes 35 to 45 minutes outside peak hours, and longer in snow. The airport's website lists taxis, limos, rideshare, buses, parking and pick-up and drop-off, and says airport car services, taxis and limos are available curbside outside Arrivals.
Our vehicles stay in Ontario. The Halifax car is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local partner from the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, with vehicles no more than four model years old, and our desk books it and supports it alongside your Ontario transfer. For a hotel near the terminal with a short ride, a taxi will do. For the 35 km run to the city at 05:00 with luggage, a pre-arranged car is easier.
Which Toronto airport: Pearson or Billy Bishop?
Toronto has two airports airlines use for Halifax flights. Schedule sites list Air Canada, WestJet and others landing at Pearson. They also list Porter flying into Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the waterfront. The two airports are different experiences.
| Airport | Where it is | Why choose it | Muskoka drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | Mississauga, west of the city | Most flights; the main gateway | About 170 km to Gravenhurst via Highway 400 |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | Toronto Island, downtown waterfront | Quick to the downtown core | Across the city to Highway 400; see the Billy Bishop page for the distance |
We meet passengers at both. If your flight lands at Billy Bishop, read the Billy Bishop page for how pickups work at that airport. If it lands at Pearson, the Pearson guide explains the terminals. The booker asks for the airport, so it is worth looking at your ticket before you choose.
Toronto to the lakes: the leg we drive
Your chauffeur follows the flight from Halifax and waits at arrivals. The first half hour of waiting after a domestic landing is included. The Meet and Greet service inside arrivals, with a name board or alias, is available as an add-on, and so is a note with the booking. If you need privacy, ask the desk to keep your details private.
The route reaches Highway 400, runs to Barrie and continues on Highway 11 through Orillia to Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville. The first stretch from Pearson is slow whatever the day. A weekday morning arrival at 09:45 misses the worst of the Toronto commute, but the Friday cottage rush builds through the afternoon in summer, as the highway traffic guide explains.
A morning flight, hour by hour
Here is a typical weekday plan for a morning departure. Times are local, and Ontario time is in brackets.
- 05:30 The Halifax partner car collects you.
- 06:15 You reach Stanfield, about 35 km out, and check in.
- 08:00 (07:00) The flight departs.
- 09:45 You land at Pearson.
- 10:30 Bags are collected, and you meet the chauffeur at arrivals.
- 12:15 You reach Gravenhurst, about 170 km away, in time for lunch.
On a summer Friday the final line moves to about 14:00. If you are staying at a resort, check the usual check-in hour, since a noon arrival may be ahead of it. The page for your resort says what to expect on arrival.
Halifax to Muskoka compared by mode
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight plus private car | about 7 to 8 hours off-peak | Fixed fare via booker for the car legs | Bags per vehicle class | Families, groups, resort arrivals |
| Flight plus Air Canada Landline | tied to two daily departures | Sold by Air Canada | Airline allowance | Air Canada customers on one ticket |
| Flight plus Ontario Northland coach | set by the coach timetable | Set by Ontario Northland | One bag each | Solo travellers |
| Drive the whole way | more than a day and a half | Fuel and lodging | Everything you can load | Moving house or the car itself |
Halifax to Muskoka is far too long to drive for a normal visit, so we assume you are flying.
The Landline coach and the Halifax morning flight
Air Canada's Landline coach runs between Pearson and Muskoka Airport. According to the airline announcement, it started on 15 June 2026 and has two departures from Pearson, at 08:00 and 19:15. A Halifax flight that lands at 09:45 has already missed the morning coach, and the evening one is nine and a half hours later. The coach in the other direction leaves Muskoka Airport at 05:00 and 15:00.
The Muskoka district lists the airport at 1011 Airport Road, Gravenhurst, open around the clock. It is a small airport, mainly for charter, air ambulance and government use, and it is separate from the town centres. You need onward transport from it. Discover Muskoka also lists Ontario Northland coaches from Union Station and Yorkdale, and FlixBus on Thursday to Monday.
When those fit, they are legitimate. A single traveller with one bag and a flexible morning can reasonably use them. A family from Dartmouth with a pram, grandparents and five suitcases should not.
Atlantic Canadians in Muskoka
The people who book Halifax to Muskoka transfers tend to fall into a few groups. Families visiting relatives at a cottage. Wedding guests. Couples taking an autumn weekend when the maples turn, which in Muskoka is typically late September to early October. Business travellers going to a resort retreat. For each, the car solves a different problem.
For weddings, the Muskoka wedding limousine page and the wedding transportation planning guide cover logistics. For resort stays, see Deerhurst Resort and JW Marriott The Rosseau. If you plan to spend a day looking at the leaves, the fall colours tour page is the place to start.
Getting back to Halifax
For the flight home, count back from boarding. A 07:00 departure from Pearson to Halifax needs a pickup in Gravenhurst around 02:30 to 03:00, which is a hard ask; most travellers choose a mid-morning or midday flight. In Nova Scotia, remember that the clock jumps forward an hour when you land, and that the 35 km run from Stanfield to the city adds nearly an hour before you are home. Check Ontario 511 before you leave Muskoka in winter.
Fares and booking
The airport transfers hub lists the other cities we link to Ontario, and the Muskoka hub lists the towns on the Highway 11 corridor.
The booker shows a fixed all-in fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay, with HST included and nothing added at the end of the trip. There is no published rate card. The cancellation schedule is printed on your confirmation, counted from the scheduled pickup, and peak dates can carry a different deadline.

Which Toronto airport should I fly into?
