Muskoka Bay Resort transportation: how do golfers and guests get there?
Most guests arrive by pre-booked car. Muskoka Bay Resort is about 170 km from Pearson, usually 2 h to 2 h 20 off-peak, and sits 4 km from Gravenhurst. MuskokaLimousineServices.com meets your flight, carries the golf bags, and quotes one fixed fare before you pay.
Muskoka Bay Resort, at 1217 North Muldrew Lake Road, Gravenhurst, P1P 1R2, is a golf-led resort with a championship course designed by Doug Carrick. The resort's own site describes accommodation as suites, lofts and villas, all self-catering, and a clubhouse about 1 km from the units. It also lists a Cliffside Restaurant set 300 feet above the course, a Muskoka Skybar, an infinity pool and a spa and wellness page.
Its home page says it is "just 90 minutes north of Toronto". That is the marketing figure. Our planning figure from Pearson is 2 h to 2 h 20 off-peak, and 3 h 30 or more on a summer Friday afternoon, because Highway 400 and Highway 11 are slower than the claim on the busiest days. The point of a pre-booked transfer is that you do not have to find out the hard way.
We are not a street taxi. There is no meter and no hail. You book in advance, the car is assigned, and a licensed, commercially insured chauffeur is waiting in arrivals with your name on a board if you add meet and greet.
How far is Muskoka Bay Resort from Pearson, Union Station and Muskoka Airport?
The resort is about 170 km from Toronto Pearson, about 173 km from Union Station and a similar distance from Billy Bishop. The route is Highway 427 or 401 to Highway 400, north to Highway 11 at Barrie, then Highway 11 to Gravenhurst. Gravenhurst is the first of the Muskoka towns on the highway, so the resort sits at the shorter end of the range.
| From Muskoka Bay Resort to | Road distance | Usual off-peak time |
|---|---|---|
| Gravenhurst downtown | about 4 km | 8 minutes |
| Taboo Muskoka | about 9 km | 15 minutes |
| Muskoka Airport (YQA) | about 14 km | 20 minutes |
| Bracebridge | about 21 km | 25 minutes |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 170 km | 2 h – 2 h 20 |
| Toronto Union Station | about 173 km | 2 h 05 – 2 h 25 |
These are rounded figures from our own route checks. Check Ontario 511 (511on.ca) on the day for cameras, incidents and construction. Our guide to Highway 400 and 11 cottage traffic shows the hours to avoid, and the Toronto to Gravenhurst route page covers the drive in detail.
Muskoka Bay Resort: car, coach, train or taxi?
| Mode | Door-to-door time | Cost note | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private chauffeured car from Pearson | 2 h – 2 h 20 off-peak; 3 h 30+ summer Friday | Fixed fare via booker | Per vehicle class; golf bags and bags fit when planned | Golf foursomes, couples, villa groups |
| Ontario Northland coach to Gravenhurst, then a car | Coach per published timetable, plus about 8 min by road | Published fares on the Ontario Northland site | Standard coach allowance | Solo guests travelling light |
| Northlander train to Gravenhurst, then a car | Depends on the final timetable, plus about 8 min by road | Fares published by Ontario Northland once service resumes | Check Ontario Northland rules | A train arrival, once service is confirmed |
| Local taxi from Gravenhurst | About 8 min | Metered | Small cars; golf bags do not always fit | A short hop, if one is free |
The Ontario Northland site lists Gravenhurst among the stations of the returning Northlander and says the train is soon returning to service. Plan around it only after the schedule is firm; our Northlander guide keeps the status.
The coach and a short taxi ride works for a solo traveller with one bag. It does not work well for a golf trip: clubs are bulky, a foursome arrives with four sets plus luggage, and a flight that lands in the evening usually misses the last coach. This is the clearest case where a private car pays for itself in time and certainty.
Golf at Muskoka Bay: bags, tee times and the car
The resort's golf page describes the course as a Doug Carrick design, says Golf Digest named it Canada's Best New Golf Course in 2007, and offers private, semi-private and group lessons. Tee times can be booked through the resort's online booking system for both members and guests.
Three practical points for a golf transfer:
- Bags count. An Executive Sedan takes up to three passengers and two large bags, so one golf bag plus a suitcase fills it. A Business SUV takes up to six passengers and six bags, which suits a foursome with clubs if luggage is light. For four golfers with full luggage and clubs, ask us to quote an Executive Sprinter (up to 12 passengers, 12 bags).
- Tee times and arrival. If a morning tee time is the reason for the trip, a flight that lands the night before is safer than a dawn departure from Toronto. For a first-day tee time after an early flight, book the car to the clubhouse rather than the units.
- Where to be dropped. The clubhouse is about 1 km from the accommodation, according to the resort. Say at booking whether you want the units or the clubhouse, and put the villa name in a note with the booking.
See our golf transportation page for group trips between courses, and the Taboo Muskoka page for a nearby resort whose own golf course is being rebuilt.
Suites, lofts and villas: matching the group to the vehicle
The resort lists suites for weekend retreats and villas for larger groups, each self-catering, so a grocery stop is a common request. Villas suit golf groups and families; the resort's own pages do not publish capacity figures, so confirm bedrooms and sleeping numbers with reservations and then match the vehicle.
| Group | Suggested vehicle | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Couple | Mercedes E / S-Class or Executive Sedan | Up to 2 or 3 passengers, 2 bags |
| Four golfers, light luggage | Business SUV | Up to six passengers, six bags |
| Six to twelve, golf and luggage | Executive Sprinter | Up to 12 passengers, 12 bags |
| Seven in comfort, corporate | Jet Sprinter Executive | Up to seven passengers, five bags |
The model is "or similar" and is named when you book. A stretch limousine or party bus has little luggage room, so keep those for a night out, not an airport run. The Sprinter and group transportation page explains how we size larger groups.
Dinner at the Cliffside and an evening out in Gravenhurst
The resort says the Cliffside Restaurant offers a farm-to-table menu, 300 feet above the course, open year-round. A Muskoka Skybar is also listed. For most guests staying on the property, dinner is a short walk or drive.
The car matters in the other direction: a group staying in a Gravenhurst hotel and driving to the Cliffside, or the reverse. Gravenhurst's downtown is 4 km from the resort. A return booking with an agreed pickup time means no one has to drive home from a winery tasting or a late dinner, and the hourly mode keeps a car with you across several stops. Nothing is promised about refreshments on board.
For other local ideas, the Gravenhurst page covers the town, the Muskoka Steamships page the wharf, and the brewery and winery tours page the tasting routes.
Weddings, retreats and holiday parties
The resort's pages list meetings and events, weddings, holiday parties and year-end celebrations, team building and golf retreats. That mix gives a clear picture of the transfers: arrival days with many small groups, a single large shuttle for a ceremony, and a late departure after a dinner.
For corporate retreats we usually split the work: a Sprinter or Jet Sprinter Executive from the airport for each arriving group, hourly cars for the leadership, and a Sprinter for the post-dinner return. See corporate retreat transportation for the planning steps. For weddings, the Muskoka wedding limo page and the wedding transportation planning guide lay out the timeline. Long-weekend and big-wedding dates may have their own cancellation deadline, shown on the confirmation.
Building a golf weekend around the airport you choose
Pearson gives the most flight options, and the Friday morning arrivals suit an afternoon round. Billy Bishop is the better choice if you are staying downtown the night before, because the airport is on the waterfront and the drive north starts without the airport-highway tangle. Muskoka Airport is the shortest hop, about 14 km from the resort, and the right answer for private and charter flights; check with the airline or operator rather than assume a commercial schedule.
A simple pattern for a three-day trip: book the outbound car for Friday late morning, a return for Sunday afternoon (not evening, when Highway 11 south is slowest), and an hourly car for Saturday if the group wants to see Gravenhurst or visit the lake. For a group arriving on different flights, book each arrival separately with a shared drop-off time, so a delayed flight does not hold up everyone else. Hold the Sunday pickup at least an hour before you think you need it.
Winter stays and shoulder seasons
The resort advertises stays and dining year-round and promotes winter offers. Highway 11 north of Barrie can change character quickly in winter, and the last stretch down North Muldrew Lake Road is a local road. Ontario 511 posts winter road conditions and a Track My Plow map, worth checking before any winter drive. Flight tracking still protects a delayed landing, and chauffeurs drive to the conditions. See winter and ski transfers for cold-season gear and planning.
What the booking includes
Every arrival is tracked against the flight board. You get an hour of free waiting after an international landing, thirty minutes after a domestic one and fifteen minutes on any other pickup. Optional extras in the booker include a chauffeur waiting inside arrivals with a name board (or an alias), child seats, and a note with the booking, such as the villa name. Tell the desk about a pet when you book; pets travel in a carrier, and service animals travel at no charge. The fare is fixed and all-inclusive, with 13% HST included; our guide to how private car fares work explains how the total is reached. The Pearson airport page, the resorts hub and the Muskoka hub cover the rest of the area, and the Muskoka Airport page covers the closest runway.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get from Toronto to Muskoka Bay Resort?
Drive about 170 km: Highway 400 north to Highway 11, then Highway 11 to Gravenhurst and North Muldrew Lake Road. Allow 2 h to 2 h 20 in light traffic, and 3 h 30 or more on a summer Friday afternoon. The chauffeur is at arrivals when you land.
Where is Muskoka Bay Resort?
At 1217 North Muldrew Lake Road, Gravenhurst, P1P 1R2. It is about 4 km from downtown Gravenhurst and about 14 km from Muskoka Airport.
Can you carry golf clubs?
Yes, in sedans, SUVs and Sprinters, within each vehicle's bag limit. Stretch limousines and party buses take little luggage. Tell us how many golfers and bags when you book.
Can I reach Muskoka Bay Resort without a car?
Partly. Ontario Northland serves Gravenhurst by coach, about 4 km from the resort, and a short ride covers the rest. For golf clubs or late flights a pre-booked car is simpler.
Is there a taxi in Gravenhurst?
A local taxi is fine for a short hop if one is free, but it is not pre-booked. MuskokaLimousineServices.com is not a street taxi; a car is booked in advance and the fare is fixed.
How much does a transfer to Muskoka Bay cost?
Your fare appears in the booker, fixed and all-inclusive, before you commit. We do not list rates on the site.
Can the car take us to the clubhouse instead of the villas?
Yes. The resort says the clubhouse is about 1 km from the accommodations. Name the drop-off in the booking and in a note with it.
Do you handle weddings and corporate retreats at the resort?
Yes. Use the Sprinter, Jet Sprinter Executive or stretch options for group moves, and ask for coaches of 20 to 56 seats for larger events. Availability for stretch, Mercedes-Maybach and party bus is confirmed at booking; Rolls-Royce is on request through the reservations desk, with availability confirmed in writing.
